Courtyard Taiyuan

About this hotel

Courtyard Taiyuan softens the usual business-hotel formula with a garden and free bicycles alongside its hot tub, giving the stay a slightly less corporate edge than Sheraton or InterContinental down the road. Family rooms are soundproofed with air-conditioning and modern amenities, and spa facilities plus a fitness centre sit alongside the hot tub for guests who want more than a single soak. The restaurant runs across three cuisines, Chinese, European and Cantonese, and covers breakfast through high tea, useful for a multi-day stay without repeating the same menu. Free on-site parking and a location 4.8 kilometres from Shanxi University and 8 kilometres from The Coal Museum of China round out a property that sits 10 kilometres from Taiyuan Wusu International Airport.

  • Hot tub and spa facilities
  • Garden with free bicycles
  • Restaurant serving three cuisines

Our take

This suits guests who want a hot tub without the fully corporate atmosphere of the bigger international chains nearby, particularly anyone spending free time near Shanxi University. The garden and bicycles genuinely get used rather than sitting as brochure features. Travellers who need the hot tub paired with a full indoor pool should look at Sheraton or the Fuli Pullman instead, since Courtyard's version stands on its own without a swimming pool attached.

  • Borrow the free bicycles for a loop toward Shanxi University if you have a free morning.
  • Try the Cantonese menu at dinner, it is less commonly offered than the Chinese and European options elsewhere in Taiyuan.
  • Book a garden-facing room if quiet matters more than proximity to the lobby.

Why we love it

  • A garden that softens the business-hotel feel
  • Free bicycles for guests to use
  • Three cuisines across one restaurant
  • Spa facilities alongside the hot tub
Why guests love it

The garden at Courtyard Taiyuan was the surprise of the trip, a proper outdoor space to sit with a coffee before using the hot tub in the evening, which felt different from the other business hotels we compared in the city. The free bicycles got real use for a ride toward Shanxi University on our one free afternoon. Dinner at the restaurant covered three different cuisines across our stay without repeating a single dish.
