Abu Dhabi is easy to underestimate if you only know it as Dubai's quieter neighbor. The capital runs its own rhythm, built around the white domes of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the government and banking towers of Al Maryah Island, and the roughly 8-kilometre Corniche where residents walk and cycle along the Gulf every evening. Saadiyat Island adds the Louvre Abu Dhabi and a stretch of protected natural beach, while Yas Island supplies the more entertainment-driven side of the city with Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and the Formula 1 circuit that hosts the season-closing Grand Prix. Summers push past 40°C from June to September, so most visitors plan around the cooler months from October to April, when the Corniche, the mosque courtyards and the outdoor pools are all comfortable for a full day outside.
